Walk through Groningen and be surprised
FIELD TRIP is a short walking route through Groningen in which you enter the world of a new creator three times. Juersson Hermanus, Jantien Fick and Sam Verhaeren each share their own research for 15-20 minutes. Not a ready-made performance, but a glimpse into their artistic process, research and experimentation.
After the walk, you will gather in the Grand Theatre for a short Q&A. Hosted by Bente Sebonk and Jette De Haan. Ask your questions, share your impressions and meet the creators and other visitors.
We will conclude with a presentation by De Schrijversstudio van Theater Bellevue / Dawn Collective, in which new writing talent will share their work.
About the artists
- Jantien Fick – The Sun and the Moon Swapped (preliminary research)
During Jonge Harten, I will present a small preliminary research project for my performance The Sun and the Moon Swapped, which will premiere in 2026. In this performance, I explore the thin line between memory and imagination: what really happened and what is just a figment of the imagination? I focus on the power of collective imagination and how we can lose ourselves in a shared illusion. What does it mean when we see something together in a theatre that isn’t really there, yet it gains the power of truth?
- Juersson Hermanus – Chichi
What if you are proud of your roots, your appearance, your voice, but the world mainly sees you as a stereotype?
Chichi is a powerful, multidisciplinary performance about image, identity and prejudice. Inspired by the Chichi statue from Curaçao, symbol of “the big sister”, but also a subject of debate: is it a tribute or a caricature?Through the eyes of a young woman, this performance explores how we are jointly responsible for how we see each other. Chichi makes you look, feel and think. About yourself. About others.
- Sam Verhaeren – ALLES MOET KAPOT (onderzoek/nieuw werk)
ALLES MOET KAPOT explores how violence stems from boredom. Sam grew up in a small village where not much happened except for the occasional outbreak of violence. As a village with 5,000 inhabitants, we managed to make the news more often than an average-sized town. I was not immune to these outbreaks of violence either. In a physically expressive style, Sam and performer Jantien Fick explore how a hopelessly boring life incites destruction in the hope of feeling something. The hope of feeling that life is worth living. For the young people who get behind the wheel after inhaling nitrous oxide, for those who drink themselves into a coma, and those who don’t know what to do with their lives.
