A visual and musical performance about inequality
An encounter that takes place on a catwalk shows what inequality does to a person. The catwalk symbolises a line. Through the city, through your life, through your bank account. Do you have a lot or a little? Are you above or below the line?
Two actors on an empty floor build a world together, in which a chic fashion show unwittingly turns into an auction. A Kafkaesque world as a mirror of society. What happens when one person has everything and another has nothing? Why do we find it so difficult to share with people who have less? Encounters of inequality are expressed in costumes, music and dance. In gripping scenes, we show where the friction lies. Sharp, honest and moving.
Inequality and precariousness
This is the conclusion of a longer investigation into inequality and precariousness in the Netherlands. Stormkamer previously produced “De Salon tussen Weelde en Gebrek” (The Salon between Wealth and Poverty) about precariousness and “De ontmoeting tussen Alles of Niets” (The Encounter between All or Nothing) about inequality in a city. Stormkamer has held many discussions on this subject in various cities in the Netherlands. All this input is incorporated into the performance: De Balans van Bestaan (The Balance of Existence).
