The night belongs to us too
In this new (English spoken) theatre text, Lotte Laurens and Just van Bommel explore what happens when a woman does what she has always been taught not to do. Their female character seeks out a violent sexual confrontation. They put on their figurative boxing gloves and she enters the ring as an equal, ready to throw a few punches and reclaim the night.
In June 2025, Lotte and Just wrote the monologue “You should get raped” as a reflection on experiences of street harassment. Current events caught up with them, or rather, proved that the battle is not yet over, that women and queer people are still not safe on the streets. On the night of 31 August, people in various cities took to the streets en masse in an action organised by the Dolle Mina’s called “The night is ours too”.
“thank you for this. I thought the way you reserve & mix up the roles is very smart but also very touching. The way the text balances the thin line between violence, consent and arousal are strong. Very smart, very involving, very intriguing to me. Also your performance is amazing” – Publieksreactie Slootfestival, juni 2025.
Open Studio
During the first weekend of Jonge harten, Lotte Laurens will be in the Grand Theatre studio, writing and developing the monologue, creating new work and exploring the impact and change of the story when spoken by a male actor instead of the actress herself.
On 15 and 16 November, the studio doors will open for a first reading and discussion.
