Yousef Sweid takes you on a journey through his story of a life between two worlds.
The complexity I’ve lived with all my life has forced me to be alone with my position. If I’m already alone anyway, why not be alone in front of an audience?«
Yousef Sweid, born in Haifa, is a Palestinian Israeli actor — someone who grew up between two worlds and has always grappled with that complexity. In his play, Sweid explores his life between different cultures, narratives, and realities — different versions of the truth. He interweaves personal anecdotes with his unique political reflections, sharing everything from funny stories about life in Berlin to flashbacks of his childhood as an Arab kid from a Christian family in a Jewish kindergarten. He seeks to understand how to navigate a world where he always finds himself »in between.«
Between the River and the Sea is a heartfelt plea for sharing unheard stories and for listening. It is an invitation to embrace complexity and to witness the story of a life that simply cannot choose an easy side.
Together with SPOT, NITE, and Grand Theatre , Jonge Harten is programming the performance Between the River and the Sea on November 14. Jonge Harten is a co-signatory of the cultural boycott against the state of Israel. At the same time, we believe more in dialogue than in protest alone. That is why we invite you to join us after the performance for a conversation about the state of the world.
