Esther van der Wel – Hoogtij(d)
“To everyone who has an opinion from time to time: I think you should be silent. About having to find something. About not wanting to find anything. About actually wanting to be nice. About thinking something about that. About Paul Verhoeven. And Frits. Especially about Frits.”
Esther van der Wel (1997, Nijmegen) will graduate from the cabaret program at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in 2022, with Hoogtij(d) as her master’s thesis. They want to make things that do something, that are real and personal, but without heaviness or fuss. After all, it has to be fun. Hoogtij(d) is Esther’s first solo performance and touches just about everything. Opinions, anti-opinions, the king, gender and peasants. But above all, humanity and a little love.
