Do you dare to ask for help?
Do you have a lot of stress?
Do you think school is stupid?
Do you want a big family?
Do you want to swim naked sometime?
Do you have fears?
Are you okay with not always being okay?
Do you sometimes feel lonely?
Do you often feel left out?
Do you like to laugh?
Are you ready to help other people? Are you afraid of the future?
Do you find yourself beautiful?
Do you want to become rich?
De puberfluisteraar is a sincere attempt by two adults to be guided by teenagers rather than the other way around.
During the winter of 2022, playwright Sanderijn Helsen surveyed more than 200 teenagers about their future dreams, fears, desires and struggles. From their multifaceted output, Sanderijn distilled a theater text about the teenage brain. During the writing process she was assisted by nine young coaches.
In the performance, Helsen and musician Leen Diependaele (Samowar) guide the audience through various adolescent portraits and a soundtrack full of young voices. They amplify, pitch, loop and sync youthful utopias, inner demons, pressing questions and visionary manifestos of teenagers in this compelling theater concert.
“In this performance, Sanderijn uses humor and music to give a recognizable insight into the sometimes overwhelming chaos inside a teenager’s head. Especially because she still recognizes that chaos as an adult, she manages to put her finger on the sore spot several times.” – Gregory | curator Jonge Harten
