Jonge Harten 2025: Speak Up and Listen
Every year, we work from a mindset. You will experience this in different ways during the festival, from very literal to subtle. Below, you can read more into our mindset if this years festival.
‘Speak Up and Listen’ is about creating a safe and inspiring environment where every voice counts, no matter how soft, hesitant, contrary or different that voice may be. We embrace the diversity of perspectives, the determination of those who dare to express their opinions, but also the doubts of those who are still searching for the right words. We recognise the value of the unheard, the disobedient, the necessary voices; the voices that ask questions, investigate, offer alternatives, courageously advocate a different opinion, motivate others, make connections and ask critical questions.
Making your voice heard is valuable, because your story, opinion and doubts matter. By speaking up, you create change, growth and greater understanding for ourselves and the world. This creates space for new ideas, connection and understanding, even though it can sometimes feel vulnerable and scary to do.
At the same time, this mindset also requires you to listen to others and yourself, without immediately judging or condemning. By paying sincere attention to what is literally being said, you create space for different perspectives. The loud voices, the quiet doubts, the critical questions and the courageous ideas that might otherwise remain unheard. The voices of the minority in particular are often the key to something new and valuable.
It takes courage to speak up, and patience and respect to listen. But only by speaking and listening we can create a place where everyone feels safe. Safe to be themselves and where genuine connection and change can happen. So don’t just dare to speak up, but also really listen to others. Together, we can create a world that gives space to everyone and every voice.
